Hydrocotyle tripartita ‘Mini’

Popularly known as Hydrocotyle sp ‘Japan’ in aquarium trade and is a variant from Hydrocotyle tripartita from South East Asia. This variant has miniature leaves and can form dense carpet by developing creeping stems. Horizontal growth in the form of carpet can be aided by strong light and copious amount of CO2. Even beginners can try this plant, as it is relatively hard and can tolerate relatively higher water hardness

Each stalk becomes 2-4 cm wide and 10-30 cm high. The plant willingly creates side shoots, but cutting increases the amount and the plant becomes even denser. The cut-off shoots quickly generate new roots when planted. The plant becomes intensely red and grows better, when placed in light and with added CO2. “Meta” is a still new, splendidly coloured form of Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata with only moderate requirements. It was brought from the Departamento del Meta in central Colombia a few years ago. At the moment it is still a rarity. In its underwater form, this plant is very similar to Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata “Pantanal”, with whorled, narrow leaves that turn bright red to orange in bright light. “Meta”, however, is easier to grow, comparable to L. inclinata var. verticillata ‘Cuba’.
